Our gynaecological cancer team nurse specialists


Clinical nurse specialists

Your clinical nurse specialist (CNS) or key worker is a nurse with skills and experience in caring for women with gynaecological cancer. They are your point of contact with the hospital during your cancer treatment, and will provide support to you and your family. For more information, download our leaflet Your gynaecological cancer team (PDF 93Kb).

Marie Smith (nee Shannon)

Biography: Marie specialises in gynaecological cancers. She has a BSc in cancer nursing and is currently working on her MSc in counselling and psychotherapy. She has an interest in the psychological and physical wellbeing of the patient.

Ali Allen

Ali Allen, clinical nurse specialist

Biography: Ali has worked in women’s health since 2000 when she joined the Gynaecology Ward at St Thomas’. She has experience in emergency and early pregnancy nursing following a role working as a senior staff nurse on the Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Unit at St Thomas’. Following this, Ali moved back to the Gynaecology Ward to pursue her interest in gynaecology oncology and  took on a new role as a gynaecology oncology liaison sister. She then moved to her current role as clinical nurse specialist for gynaecology oncology in 2010.

Education and training: BSC (Hon’s) Women’s Health (2005), Diploma in Adult Nursing (1998). Ali is about to start her Masters in Cancer Care starting with Principles of Gynaecological Cancer.

Specialist interests: women’s health and survivorship.
