What is the GOLD team?

The GOLD team aims to improve your overall medical health before, during, or after your cancer treatment. We look after patients aged 65 years and above.

Our Team includes Consultants (Dr Danielle Harari and Dr Tania Kalsi), a GOLD Senior Clinical Fellow (Dr Elisaveta Krasteva), GOLD Advanced Nurse Practitioners (Ana Babic-Illman, Sarah Compton, Sabine Martin) and a Team administrator (Fiona Giardina).

We work closely with your cancer doctors/team and help link up your care with your GP. We also regularly work with physiotherapists, occupational therapists and with community services.

Why have I been referred to the GOLD team?

You have been referred to the GOLD team by your cancer doctor, cancer nurse specialist or team, or GP. Staff caring for you have identified medical or coping issues where we might be able to help you further. We can help you prepare for, or cope with your cancer treatment and symptoms.

How can the GOLD team help me?

The support you receive will depend on your individual needs, but may include:

  • a full medical and nursing assessment to help determine your medical fitness for cancer treatment and manage co-existing medical conditions as needed
  • assess your mobility, independence and support needs. We will arrange support from physiotherapy, occupational therapy and social workers if and when these are required
  • we will work closely with your cancer team and GP to ensure your cancer care is managed together with your other individual medical and support needs
  • we will provide you with all the results of these assessments and treatment plans so you can discuss them with your GP, cancer team, and family.
