Multiple sclerosis

We provide hospital and community services for people with multiple sclerosis (MS).

MS is a lifelong condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. It causes many different symptoms, including problems with movement and vision. It’s the most common neurological cause of disability in younger adults and affects around 85,000 people in the UK.

People usually experience the first symptoms of MS between 20 and 50 years of age. It affects twice as many women as men.

We can help:

  • with your diagnosis
  • manage your symptoms
  • monitor your treatments
  • starting disease modifying therapy

Our team includes:

  • specialist nurses
  • a consultant
  • an MS coordinator

We provide:

  • information and advice to people with MS and their carers
  • emotional support for relatives and carers
  • assessments and follow-up treatment
  • a telephone service for clinical advice
  • prompt attention to any changes in your condition
  • appointments in our community clinics
  • information and education for health professionals and social services
  • expert advice in complex cases
  • a relapse clinic review
  • an infusion clinic

Research and clinical trials

Research is vital to improving the care that you receive when you're unwell. You can help improve healthcare by taking part in research studies at our Trust. During your appointment, ask your healthcare professional about research. They'll be happy to tell you about research studies you could be eligible to join.
