Monitoring you on Modulen IBD

Exclusive enteral nutrition using Modulen IBD

Exclusive enteral nutrition is a prescribed liquid diet that we recommend for some people with inflammatory bowel disease. This diet:

  • can improve inflammation in the gut if used as your only source of nutrition for about 6 weeks
  • gives you all the nutrients that you need during this time

Modulen IBD is a powder that can be used to give you exclusive enteral nutrition.

Throughout the time that you take Modulen IBD, we monitor your:

  • wellbeing
  • nutritional status (your health condition as influenced by your diet)

You may need to come for more hospital appointments during this time. Your gastroenterologist may also want to do more tests to check your progress.

Some of your monitoring with the dietitian can take place by phone or email.

Your weight and nutritional needs

If your weight is stable within the healthy weight range, the aim while you are on Modulen IBD is to maintain your weight.

For some people who are underweight, we hope to help you gain weight. If you lose weight while on Modulen IBD, please tell your dietitian.

If you have access to some scales, please weigh yourself once a week. In the following document, there is a chart for you to record each weight measurement and tables for your dietitian to record your nutritional needs:

Concentration guide for Modulen IBD

We recommend that you start with a concentration of 1kcal/ml.

You may be able to manage the full volume of Modulen IBD but need to increase the kilocalories (kcal) in your diet. In this case, your dietitian may recommend increasing the concentration of Modulen IBD that you make.

The following tables guide you on how to prepare Modulen IBD at 1kcal/ml and at the higher concentrations of 1.25kcal/ml or 1.5kcal/ml:
