32 staff celebrate over 800 years of service at Guy’s and St Thomas’

Staff from across Guy’s and St Thomas’ have been honoured in a special awards ceremony to thank them for dedicating the majority of their working lives to the NHS.

Funded by Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity, the long service awards celebrated and recognised 32 colleagues who have each contributed more than 25 years of service to the Trust.

Staff given the award have varied roles across Guy’s and St Thomas’, including housekeeping assistants, medical secretaries, nurses, patient coordinators, scientists and doctors.

Amelia Kidd is an associate specialist in the sexual and reproductive health team. She has provided high quality, complex contraception and reproductive healthcare for women across south London for over 25 years. She has also trained multiple groups of GPs to deliver contraception and give sexual health advice.

Amelia is championed by her team for supporting the young person’s clinic, providing a safe space and invaluable, accessible care for vulnerable young people.

Amelia said: “The NHS constantly changes but what doesn't change is the patients, so I try to focus on that, as that's what is important. As well as being kind in our day to day interactions with both other staff and patients.”

Pauline Bell is a colposcopy patient pathway coordinator, who also celebrated 25 years of working at Guy’s and St Thomas’. She is described by her colleagues as having an exceptional work ethic, making her an invaluable asset to the department, and going above and beyond for patients.

Charles Alexander, Chairman of Guy’s and St Thomas’, read out the citations at the ceremony earlier this month which highlighted the expertise and dedication of those who reached the quarter-century milestone.

He said:

Every one of the staff members we recognised at the long service awards has made a difference to our patients, families and colleagues over the last 25 years. It was an honour to present them with their long service badge. We say thank you to them for their compassion and unwavering commitment to the Trust.

Each staff member was presented with a gold badge.
