Born on Christmas Day at St Thomas'
Friday 27 December 2019
As many of us opened presents on Christmas Day, midwives at St Thomas' Hospital were busy helping mothers give birth to 12 babies.
Seven girls and five boys were born, with the first at 0:58am being a girl and the last a boy born at 11.02pm.
Almost 6,500 babies were born at St Thomas’ Hospital last year.
Nathan Green and Maria Grant, from Rotherhithe, welcomed Arlo on Christmas Day at 04:49 and he was a healthy 9lb and 8oz.
Maria said:
"We expected him on the 24th so there was always the chance that he would be born on Christmas Day. The contractions started on Christmas Eve but then continued right through.
It's amazing that he arrived on Christmas Day. Our family has come everyday to visit and he was passed round like a Christmas present!"
