David and Jonathan Dimbleby have donated £2 million towards a state-of-the-art cancer centre at Guy’s Hospital.

The brothers’ generosity, through their charity Dimbleby Cancer Care, will support the new Cancer Centre at Guy’s to provide specialist services to patients under one roof.

Ron Kerr, Chief Executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, says: “The Dimbleby family are close friends of our organisation and long-term supporters of our cancer services.

“This latest and very generous gift will ensure the new Cancer Centre at Guy’s Hospital is a truly exceptional place for our patients, allowing them to benefit from the best possible care, as well as the latest research and treatments.”

Dimbleby Cancer Care was set up in memory of Richard Dimbleby who died at St Thomas’ in 1965. The charity supports drop-in centres for patients, families and carers at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals.

The new Cancer Centre at Guy’s is due to open in 2016 as a hub for cancer treatment and research, providing seamless care for patients.

Professor Arnie Purushotham, Director of King's Health Partners Integrated Cancer Centre, says: “We are transforming the way we care for cancer patients. Generous gifts such as this have an enormous impact on the treatment and care for cancer patients in London and globally.

“Our fundraising efforts continue so that we can establish the new Cancer Centre at Guy’s as an exemplar for cancer care and research.”

All Dimbleby Cancer Care services at Guy’s and St Thomas’ will move into the new Cancer Centre at Guy’s when it is completed in 2016.
