Get colourful for the Cancer Centre – 1-2 October
Wednesday 16 September 2015
Join us this autumn as we get colourful to support the fundraising appeal for the new Cancer Centre at Guy’s.
We are aiming to raise £15 million for the Cancer Centre. You can help us by joining us for a range of activities in Atrium 2 at Guy's and Central Hall at St Thomas', including a free prize draw:
- Thursday 1 October, 11am-2pm – find out how you can support Guy’s Cancer Centre Appeal and pick up your collection box
- Friday 2 October, 11am-2pm – bake or buy cakes and pies, or hold your own fundraising tea party.
Chief Executive Ron Kerr says: “While construction of our new Cancer Centre is on track, we still have much more to do before we can start treating patients there next year. We need to raise money to add the finishing touches to what promises to be a very special place for cancer patients.”
When the new Cancer Centre opens in autumn 2016, it will provide most cancer treatment under one roof. It will also be the only Cancer Centre in Europe to have its radiotherapy suite situated above ground following feedback from patients.
Terry Weston, who was treated for breast cancer at Guy’s and St Thomas’, thinks this is a great idea.
She says: “My radiotherapy was finebut I went down into the bowels of the hospital in the basement. It wasn’t the best environment, although the staff really tried to make it an OK experience.”
