Get free Vital 5 health checks at self-service kiosks
Tuesday 5 November 2024
Patients and staff at Guy’s and St Thomas’ can get crucial health checks in just minutes at Vital 5 health kiosks across the Trust. The kiosks allow people to monitor their blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), weight management, mental well-being, and alcohol and smoking habits.
Health checks are designed to assess the risk of potential medical conditions, and to spot early warning signs of health problems that may go unnoticed.
Patients are encouraged to use the kiosks before their appointments with their healthcare team. Trained staff discuss positive improvements for their health and well-being, and signpost patients to available services within south east London or provide referrals when necessary and appropriate.
Dr Nigel Beckett, a consultant in ageing and health and clinical lead for adult hypertension services, said: “We know that spotting early warning signs can help to reduce your risk of health problems like kidney disease, stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia.
"Having regular health checks can also give you the motivation to kick start a healthier lifestyle. I’d encourage everyone to take the Vital 5 test.”
