Guy’s and St Thomas’ non-executive director appointments

Ian Playford has been appointed to serve as a Non-Executive Director on the Board at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

His appointment is to the Trust’s Board of Directors and is for four years until May 2026.

Ian was appointed a Non-Executive Advisor to the Trust last February following the merger of Guy’s and St Thomas’ and Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trusts. He joined Royal Brompton and Harefield in 2020 as a Non-Executive Director.

His previous roles include interim Chief Executive of the Government Property Agency, where he was asked by the Cabinet Office to set up and manage central Government’s £3bn office, warehouse and science estate, and he was also a Group Property Director of Kingfisher PLC. 

Ian has also been a member of the board of HM Courts and Tribunals Service and the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in East Grinstead.

Sir Hugh Taylor, Chair of Guy’s and St Thomas’, said: “We are delighted Ian is joining our Board as a Non-Executive Director. Ian has extensive experience in property, investment and system transformation and has been a senior executive across the private and public sector for more than 30 years.

“He has already made a significant contribution as a Non-Executive Advisor and we look forward to welcoming him to the Board.”

Guy’s and St Thomas’ has also reappointed Dr Sheila Shribman, Steve Weiner and Dr Javed Khan as Non-Executive Directors on the Trust’s Board of Directors.

Dr Shribman joined the Trust as a Non-Executive Director in 2013 and has been reappointed until June 2023. Sheila was the Department of Health’s National Clinical Director for Children, Young People and Maternity for seven years until March 2013. She was a Consultant Paediatrician for more than 25 years and Medical Director of Northampton General Hospital for 11 years.

Steve Weiner joined the Trust as a Non-Executive Director in 2014 and has been reappointed until July 2023. Steve was previously a senior executive at Unilever, working in the finance team, most recently as Financial Controller of the Group company.

Dr Javed Khan was appointed to the Trust Board last February as part of the merger. He joined Royal Brompton and Harefield in 2019 as a Non-Executive Director. Until late 2021, he was Chief Executive of the charity Barnardo’s, leading a staff of over 8,000 and more than 20,000 volunteers.
