A new health centre for Dulwich Community Hospital site

Construction work has started on a new health centre at the Dulwich Community Hospital site in East Dulwich.

The redevelopment, approved by NHS Southwark Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS England, will bring together a range of community health and GP services under one roof.

Services provided by Guy's and St Thomas' will include a diabetes eye screening clinic and rehabilitation support for people with brain injuries. King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust will also be running services from the new centre.

The centre will also house a physiotherapy unit, renal dialysis unit, community mental health services and services for patients with long term conditions.

This will mean that patients with one or more long term conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease, can receive the treatment and support they need without having to attend several appointments in different locations.

Angela Dawe, Joint Director for Operations and Strategic Development, Adult Local Services at Guy's and St Thomas', said:

"This new centre will bring the care that our patients need closer to where they live and in a location that suits them. It means that our staff can work on site with our partners and GP services, in a joined up way, to provide the best possible care."

Dr Roger Durston, NHS Southwark Clinical Commissioning Group's GP clinical associate for the Dulwich Programme, said: "This is great news for patients and residents of Southwark. The health centre will play an essential part in the transformation of primary and community health and wellbeing services across south Southwark, and will serve as a fit for purpose health hub for the local community".

The health centre is due to be completed in April 2020.
