Friday 15 November 2013

David Cheesman

David Cheesman has been appointed as the new Programme Director of the King’s Health Partners Integrated Cancer Centre.

He brings a wealth of NHS experience to the role to lead work to improve the health of cancer patients throughout south east London and beyond through high quality clinical care, research and education.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospital, the two foundation trusts that form the King’s Health Partners Integrated Cancer Centre together with King’s College London, treat more patients than any other cancer centre in London.

They provide cancer care to a culturally and ethnically diverse population of more than 1.6 million people in south east London as well as patients from further afield both nationally and internationally.

David Cheesman will take up his role in early 2014 at an exciting time as construction work is now underway to build a new £160 million Cancer Centre at Guy’s Hospital which is due to open its doors to patients in 2016.

He says: “The Integrated Cancer Centre approach and the new building at Guy’s offer a unique opportunity to bring together the best clinicians, academics and researchers to deliver world-class cancer care to the people of south east London and beyond. I am looking forward to playing my part in making that vision a reality.”

Professor Arnie Purushotham, Director of the Integrated Cancer Centre, says: “We are delighted to welcome David to the role as Programme Director. His experience and proven track record are what we require at this stage of our cancer programme.”

David Cheesman is currently Director of Strategy at The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust and has previously worked in south east London at both King’s College Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham.
