Paperless projects win extra funding
Wednesday 21 May 2014
In a move to become paper-free, Guy’s and St Thomas’ has been awarded £7million from NHS England’s ‘Safer Hospitals Safer Wards’ Technology Fund to support three initiatives:
- an electronic prescribing project, giving our patients safer and faster medicine prescribing
- additional electronic patient record systems, which will replace a large number of paper forms meaning doctors and nurses will have more time to spend with patients
- a joint project that will mean patients’ computerised test results and hospital notes can ‘follow’ them if they attend any King’s Health Partners’ hospitals (Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital and South London and Maudsley NHS foundation trusts). This project won a joint bid for funding of more than £500,000 and the three trusts are collaborating to introduce the new system from autumn this year.
The Trust is committing to spend a total of £15million on all three systems, which will be implemented in phases over the next year.
