Three teams shortlisted for top awards

Three pioneering projects have made it to the final judging stages of The British Medical Journal (BMJ) Awards 2017.
Doctors Tania Kalsi and Danielle Harari and their team are shortlisted in the Cancer Care Team category for the Geriatric Oncology Liaison Development (GOLD) service which encourages closer working between clinical teams from geriatric medicine and cancer to improve care for older patients.
Dr Kalsi said: “We have worked hard to embed the GOLD service over the last few years. It is fantastic news that it has been recognised for the great care it provides for older people with cancer by being shortlisted for this award.”
Staff from our Health Inclusion Clinic are shortlisted in the Primary Care Team category for their work helping refugees and asylum seekers.
As well as providing healthcare to people who have been unable to register with a GP, they offer advice about accessing immigration services and support from charities and the local community.
Dr Emma Preston, acting GP lead for the service, said: “We are very proud and excited to be recognised by being shortlisted for this award. Our whole team puts in endless dedication and hard work to provide a unique service to this marginalised and vulnerable group of patients who have otherwise struggled to access healthcare and support.”
SH:24, an online sexual health service which allows people to test themselves for sexually transmitted infections in the privacy of their own home and get results by text message, is shortlisted in the Innovation Team category.
SH:24 is funded by Guy's and St Thomas' Charity and is a partnership between Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital, Lambeth and Southwark councils, and the Design Council.
Now in its ninth year, The BMJ Awards recognise and celebrate the inspirational work done by doctors and their teams.
The winners will be announced on 4 May.
