Trust's safeguarding midwives team win award

A team of midwives at Guy’s and St Thomas’ have won the Maternal Health award at the inaugural Burdett Awards.
The safeguarding midwives team were recognised for their post birth contraception service, which aims to reduce unwanted pregnancies in vulnerable women.
The team looks after seven to 15 mothers and their babies on a daily basis, including those with special needs, substance abuse issues and severe mental health problems.
Dame Eileen Sills, Chief Nurse at Guy’s and St Thomas’, said: “Our safeguarding midwives work in a challenging area of practice supporting very vulnerable women, so I’m thrilled that they have been recognised for the incredibly important service they provide. The team should all feel extremely proud of their achievements.”
As part of their award win the safeguarding midwives team have received £20,000 to invest into their service.
The Burdett Awards 2018 was created by the Burdett Trust for Nursing, an independent charitable trust, to celebrate inspirational nursing teams and initiatives across the world.
