Consultant clinical oncologist
Biography
Ajay Aggarwal is a consultant clinical oncologist at Guy’s Cancer Centre, specialising in the delivery of radiation and systemic therapies for prostate cancer.
Ajay is the clinical director for the National Cancer Audit Collaborating Centre which oversees the 10 national cancer audits in England and Wales.
He is the oncology coordinator for the National Prostate Cancer Audit based at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, which has been collecting information on the processes and outcomes of care for all men newly diagnosed with prostate cancer in England and Wales since April 2013.
Before this he was the oncology coordinator/lead for the National Prostate Cancer Audit. In this role he led the development and delivery of the first ever national hospital outcome reporting programme for radiotherapy. He also co-led the largest Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) evaluation at a population level for men receiving curative therapies for prostate cancer.
Ajay received an NHS National Clinical Impact Award in 2023 for his clinical and academic contributions to the NHS.

Research interests
Ajay is Professor of Cancer Services and Systems Research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). His main areas of interest are:
- the delivery of sustainable and equitable cancer care in developed and emerging economies
- health system design
- performance assessment of cancer care
