Daniel Johnathan Hughes

Consultant medical oncologist in thoracic cancers and acute oncology

Biography

Daniel J. Hughes has been a consultant medical oncologist since 2024, joining Guy’s and St Thomas’ in 2025 specialising in thoracic cancers. He also runs the peripheral lung medical oncology service at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, where he also supports acute oncology and runs a dedicated clinic for patients with malignancy of unknown primary and those with immunotherapy-related toxicities.

Daniel has extensive research experience, completing a PhD at King’s College London in 2024. He has published in numerous high-impact journals, including The Lancet, Lancet Oncology, Radiology, and the British Journal of Cancer.

He is the principal investigator of several clinical trials at both Guy’s Cancer Centre and at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, widening trial access and participation across South East London.

He has extensive leadership experience, including as an executive committee member of the UK Society for Medical Oncology. He is passionate about training and is the lead for Resident Ward Doctors in Oncology.
