High intensity
Dermatology day care
Our high intensity service provides daily treatment over a period of time. This is usually between 1 and 2 weeks. You may need to stay overnight between treatments.
Facilities
Our facilities include:
- an individual room with a bath or shower
- a small locker
- self-service hot and cold drinks
- free Wi-Fi
- a patient lounge with a television and reading materials
- all wound and skin treatments
- towels
- a privacy gown
- a microwave (this is only for food prepared in the hospital)
- a fridge
You can bring food to keep in the fridge if it is sealed and has an expiry date. It must be in a bag or container and labelled with:
- your name
- your bed number
- the date it was put in the fridge
We do not provide toiletries.
How to get an appointment
You can ask your dermatologist to refer you. You can also ask your GP to refer you if we have treated you before.

Before your appointment
When you arrive, please check in at reception or use the self check-in kiosk. We'll use the electronic call system to tell you where you need to go when it's your appointment. Your nurse will be waiting for you. Please stay in the reception area until your name appears on the screen.
Please bring:
- a copy of your treatment plan
- preferred dressings and moisturisers, if you use them
- a list of medicines you take
- toiletries that you may need either in the accommodation or for bathing at DDC
- nightclothes if you're staying overnight and prefer to use your own clothes
- a small amount of cash to buy meals
- drinks and snacks
- entertainment, such as a book
During your appointment
A course of treatment usually lasts between 1 to 2 weeks. You may need to come in every day to receive treatment.
We'll discuss with you if you need to stay overnight and arrange accommodation for you.
If you need to stay overnight, you'll stay in:
Simon Patient Lodge and Gassiot House Lodge are at St Thomas' Hospital. We'll arrange patient transport to get you to and from the service at Guy's Hospital each day.
You will need to be picked up:
- at 8.30am from St Thomas' Hospital
- at 5pm from Guy's Hospital
After your appointment
When you finish your consultation or treatment, please check out at reception.
When your course of treatment finishes, we'll discharge you.
We'll give you an information pack and a short supply of medicine and dressings for you to use at home.
We'll send an information letter to your GP or practice nurse. They'll provide you with a prescription for your treatments.
We'll arrange a follow-up appointment for you in your usual dermatology clinic.
