If you need to contact us urgently, please phone 020 7188 8872.

We'll send you text message reminders about your appointment if we have your mobile phone number. The text message will also give you an option to change your appointment. Please follow the instructions in the message.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you want to cancel or change your appointment so we can offer the appointment to someone else.

Before your appointment

We may ask you to fill in a questionnaire before your appointment. If you receive this by text message, please complete and submit it before coming to your appointment.

Please bring:

  • your appointment letter
  • a list of medicines you're taking
  • any recent doctors reports
  • your hearing test results if you have already had one

If you're coming to the balance clinic, please bring someone to help you home in case you feel dizzy after your appointment.

During your appointment

Please arrive no more than 15 minutes before or after your appointment time.

If you're more than 15 minutes late we may have to reschedule your appointment.

You may see:

  • a doctor
  • a nurse
  • a physiotherapist
  • an audiologist
  • a speech and language therapist

Your appointment will last between 15 minutes and 2 hours depending on the appointment type.

We may need to do some tests, including:

  • blood tests
  • a hearing test
  • balance tests
  • endoscopic investigations

We're a teaching hospital and sometimes students will be in the clinic to observe. We'll ask you if you're happy for them to be at your appointment. It won't affect your care if you prefer not to have them there.

Telephone appointments

We'll call as close to your appointment time as possible. We may call up to 30 minutes before or after. Please have your phone close to you during this time.

After your appointment

We'll book any follow-up appointments you need and tell you the appointment date.

We'll write to you and the person who referred you with a summary of what we talked about at your appointment.

We'll contact you with your test results if you had any tests and book any follow-up appointments you may need.

If you need surgery, we'll discuss this with you.
