Endoscopy

How to get an appointment

Your GP, hospital doctor or other health professional can refer you.

We aim to do:

  • routine procedures within 6 weeks
  • urgent procedures within 2 weeks

Booking your appointment

Our booking team will call you once we have a date for your appointment. Please make sure we have your correct phone number.

If we can't contact you we'll send you a letter asking you to contact us within a certain amount of time.

If you don't contact us, we'll remove you from our waiting list and discharge you back to the care of your GP or referrer.

Changing or cancelling your appointment

Phone: 020 7188 8887

You can only reschedule your appointment date once. Please give as much notice as possible so someone else can have your appointment slot.

If you miss your appointment we'll usually discharge you back to the care of your GP or referrer.

Before your appointment

We'll send you a letter in the post with details of any preparation needed.

Please complete a health questionnaire.

You can email your completed questionnaire to [email protected].

You can also do this at our reception on the day.

During your appointment

Pre-assessment

Please allow 15 minutes for your pre-assessment appointment.

Depending on what you're having done, your appointment may be with a:

  • gastroenterologist
  • surgeon
  • nurse specialist

Your pre-assessment appointment may be by phone or at one of our outpatient clinics.

Having your endoscopic procedure

You can find out more about what to expect for each of our most common procedures:

We're a teaching hospital. Students supervised by qualified staff might be involved in your care. It's valuable training for them and doesn't affect the quality of your treatment. Please tell us if you don't want them involved. We'll always respect your wishes.

After your endoscopic procedure

We'll send a letter to you and your GP.

We'll contact you to book any follow-up appointments if needed.

Follow-up appointments last 10 minutes.
