Genetic skin disease

How to get an appointment

You can ask your GP or hospital doctor to refer you.

Our clinics run on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.

Changing or cancelling your appointment

Phone: 020 7188 6399

Please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your appointment to someone else.

Before your appointment

Please bring:

  • a list of medicines you take or creams you use. In your list, please include:
    • prescription medicines
    • medicines you have bought over the counter
    • alternative medicines, such as herbal remedies
  • any correspondence or investigations from other hospitals about your condition or related problems

During your appointment

Your appointment will usually last 30 minutes to an hour.

You may see a:

  • consultant
  • registrar (senior doctor)
  • specialist nurse

We'll talk about your condition and take your full medical history.

You may need to undress so that we can examine all of your skin, not just the affected area.

You may also need:

  • a blood test
  • skin sampling (taking a swab or scraping to look for skin infections)
  • skin biopsy (taking a small sample of skin under local anaesthetic)

After your appointment

We'll send a letter to your GP explaining which medicines they need to prescribe you.

You can only collect medicines from our hospital outpatient pharmacy if:

  • you need them urgently
  • your GP cannot prescribe them
