Before your appointment

Please let us know if:

  • you need any special clothing or equipment
  • there is a change in your medical condition or the medicines you're taking
  • you have been to see or are going to see your doctor or specialist

Please bring:

  • a swimming costume or swim shorts
  • flip flops to wear outside the pool (if you have them)
  • any fast-acting medicines, such as asthma inhalers or angina spray or tablets (without these you may not be able to use the pool)

During your session

If you're nervous in water, please let your physiotherapist know. Sessions take place in a small heated pool. The pool is not deep and there is a rail to hold onto. The physiotherapist will be close by at all times.

Your session will last between 15 and 30 minutes. You will have 4 hydrotherapy sessions.

Please tell the physiotherapist if you feel unwell or dizzy at any time during the session.

After your session it is important you shower to rinse off the chlorine from the pool water. Towels are provided if needed. If you get dry skin, use a body cream or lotion after showering.

We advise you to drink water afterwards to make sure you rehydrate.

After your sessions

An exercise programme and information on local hydrotherapy pools may be provided after your sessions to help you manage your condition.
