Photodermatology
We provide expertise about the effects of light on skin conditions. Our unit has 2 functions:
Photodermatology service
We see people with skin conditions caused by sunlight, such as:
- polymorphic light eruption
- actinic prurigo
- chronic actinic dermatitis
- cutaneous porphyria
- xeroderma pigmentosum
We offer complex diagnostic testing (phototesting) and provide a:
- national cutaneous porphyria clinical service
- national xeroderma pigmentosum clinical service
Phototherapy service
Our Dowling phototherapy unit provides a full range of phototherapy. We use ultraviolet light to treat people with skin conditions, including:
We're also 1 of 2 centres in England to provide high output UVA1 therapy. This is a valuable new treatment.
We're the lead for a network of phototherapy units in hospitals throughout south east England.
We offer iontophoresis, a treatment for hyperhidrosis (excess sweating of hands and feet) on Mondays, 9am to 1.30pm.
