Appointments

Salivary gland service

Your appointment

We offer telephone and face-to-face appointments.

How to get an appointment

You can be referred to our service from a dentist in primary care or another hospital.

Changing your appointment

You can change or cancel up to 24 hours before your appointment. Please give as much notice as possible so that we can offer cancelled appointments to other patients.

If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours' notice, we may discharge you from the service.

Before your appointment

If you have previously had images of your mouth, teeth and jaws taken (such as X-rays) please let us know the details. This is so we can request the images before your first appointment. Information we need are the dates, locations and details of the investigations.

Please bring:

  • your appointment letter
  • a list of medicines you're taking
  • any relevant details of your general medical health

During your appointment

Telephone appointments

You may be offered a telephone appointment before a face-to-face appointment. We'll call you within an hour of the time on your appointment letter. Please make sure that your contact details on the referral letter are correct and you are able to answer the phone in a private and quiet place.

You can read more about what to expect on our telephone appointments page.

Face-to-face appointments

Please allow for up to 3 hours for your first appointment as we may need to carry out imaging and tests such as X-rays.

You may be seen by several members of our team. We're a teaching hospital and students may be involved in the clinic, supervised by a consultant.

You can bring someone if:

  • you need support from a carer or interpreter
  • you're the parent or guardian of child coming for their appointment
  • there are other exceptional circumstances

After your appointment

We'll send a letter to the doctor or dentist who referred you with details of our examinations and a treatment plan.  We'll send a copy of this letter to you.
