Appointments

Transplant follow-up

After you have a transplant, you'll be seen face-to-face twice a week. This will slowly become less frequent. Appointments may move over to telephone or video.

Our clinics run on weekdays from 9am to 5pm.

Our transplant team may contact you between appointments to:

  • tell you your blood results
  • make changes to your medicines

How to get an appointment

We'll give you details of your first appointment in the transplant clinic before you leave hospital.

Changing or cancelling your appointment

It's important to try and keep to your appointment schedule after your transplant.

If you need to reschedule, please email our transplant nurses [email protected].

Before your appointment

Blood tests in our transplant clinic usually include checking the level of certain anti-rejection medicines in your blood, most commonly tacrolimus. Please don't take these medicines on the morning of your appointment until after you have had your blood test.

Please ask your transplant team if you're not sure about which medicines this applies to.

During your appointment

When you arrive we'll ask for a urine sample and take your:

  • weight
  • blood pressure
  • pulse
  • temperature

You'll then see a doctor or nurse.

After your consultation with the doctor or nurse you'll have some blood tests.

Your doctor or nurse will tell you if you need to wait for the results of these tests before going home.

After your appointment

A doctor or nurse may contact you to talk about:

  • your blood test results
  • changes to your medicines

If you have a problem and would like to speak to a member of the team, please email our transplant nurses [email protected].

If it's urgent and out of office hours, please call Richard Bright ward on 020 7188 8817
