Overview

Urology one-stop clinic

Your visit to the urology one-stop clinic is to help us diagnose your problem.

The clinic is designed to make the process as quick and efficient as possible. You'll see different members of the healthcare team in one place. This means you do not have to travel around the hospital for different appointments and tests.

Tests in the clinic might include:

  • urine test
  • flow rate, to measure the rate of your urinary flow
  • ultrasound scan
  • flexible cystoscopy, which involves inserting a tube into the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of your body) to look at your bladder and other parts of the urinary system. An anaesthetic gel is used to numb the urethra before the procedure
  • blood tests
  • X-ray
  • CT scan, a special kind of X-ray machine

You'll be seen by a urology consultant or registrar, but you may also see a radiology consultant or a sonographer (a clinician who does ultrasound scans).

A team of nurses support the clinic, including some specialist nurses.

Research and clinical trials

Research is vital to improving the care that you receive when you're unwell. You can help improve healthcare by taking part in research studies at our Trust. During your appointment, ask your healthcare professional about research. They'll be happy to tell you about research studies you could be eligible to join.

You can also email [email protected] for more information.
