Referrals

Making a referral

We accept referrals from:

  • GPs
  • health professionals from other Trusts

GP referrals

All NHS GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS). Referrals sent by email or post from NHS GPs will not be processed.

GPs can discuss any queries with our team via Advice and Guidance (A&G) and Consultant Connect.

Referrals from other Trusts

Health professionals from other Trusts can refer to us via email or post.

Referral criteria

We accept referrals for people:

  • with a known bleeding disorder who would like to transfer their care to our centre
  • with abnormal bleeding symptoms who need assessment for a possible underlying bleeding disorder. Examples include:
    • excessive perioperative or dental bleeding
    • unexplained postpartum haemorrhage
    • unexplained menorrhagia (women with menorrhagia should have gynaecological causes excluded before referral)
    • problematic epistaxis or gum bleeding
    • increased bruising tendency 
  • with a family history of an inherited bleeding disorder who would like to be screened for the condition
  • who have a diagnosis or family history of an inherited bleeding disorder who would like to discuss implications for future pregnancies or children

We do not accept referrals for:

Urgent referrals

We will prioritise urgent referrals. We will see urgent referrals within 1 to 4 weeks.

Emergency referrals

Please phone 020 7188 7188 and ask to speak to the on-call haematology registrar or the on-call haemostasis and thrombosis consultant.
