Referrals
Making a referral
We accept referrals from:
- GPs
- health professionals from other Trusts
GP referrals
All NHS GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS). Referrals sent by email or post from NHS GPs will not be processed.
GPs can discuss any queries with our team via Advice and Guidance (A&G) and Consultant Connect.
Referrals from other Trusts
Health professionals from other Trusts can refer to us via email or post.
Referral criteria
We accept referrals for people:
- with a known bleeding disorder who would like to transfer their care to our centre
- with abnormal bleeding symptoms who need assessment for a possible underlying bleeding disorder. Examples include:
- excessive perioperative or dental bleeding
- unexplained postpartum haemorrhage
- unexplained menorrhagia (women with menorrhagia should have gynaecological causes excluded before referral)
- problematic epistaxis or gum bleeding
- increased bruising tendency
- with a family history of an inherited bleeding disorder who would like to be screened for the condition
- who have a diagnosis or family history of an inherited bleeding disorder who would like to discuss implications for future pregnancies or children
We do not accept referrals for:
- children and young people under 16 years of age. Please refer to paediatric haemophilia and haematology at Evelina London Children's Hospital
- new onset unexplained thrombocytopenia. Please refer to haematology at Guy's and St Thomas', or your local hospital
Urgent referrals
We will prioritise urgent referrals. We will see urgent referrals within 1 to 4 weeks.
