We spend over £600 million a year on goods and services, and we're working to ensure more of that money is spent in the communities we serve.
Economic prosperity is closely linked to health and wellbeing. People living in the most deprived areas of England often experience poorer health than those in more affluent areas. In Lambeth and Southwark, the gap is stark. People in the richest areas enjoy 17 more years of good health than those in the poorest.
By spending more locally and encouraging our suppliers to invest in the community, we’re helping to close that gap, supporting better health outcomes and a stronger local economy.
Our commitment to local investment
We’re taking meaningful steps to ensure our spending supports local people.
- We pay at least the London Living Wage, helping workers meet the cost of living and support themselves and their families.
- When we tender for goods and services, we ask suppliers to demonstrate how they’re investing in local communities. This is known as social value.
- We’re actively working to increase the proportion of our spending that stays within Lambeth and Southwark, contributing to jobs, stability, and opportunity.
