Our services are open and safe to attend – we are here to help

Staff training

education centre foyerOur education, training and development department creates in-house courses and supports staff needing specialist training elsewhere. Many of our courses take place at our education centre, near Waterloo station.

Customer care

We are committed to training all staff who come into contact with patients, visitors or the public to provide excellent customer care. Where appropriate, we encourage staff to gain NVQ qualifications in customer service.

Business qualifications

Behind the scenes, we have a substantial workforce that ensures the smooth running of our organisation. Management, administrative and clerical staff are encouraged to study for everything from NVQs in business administration to Institute of Leadership management qualifications.

Work experience and apprenticeships

We are a major employer in south London, and are committed to offering educational and employment opportunities to local people. Last year, we provided work experience opportunities to over 450 young Londoners in both clinical and non-clinical services across the Trust.

Our award winning Essentia Apprenticeship Scheme – a bronze winner at the International Learning Award for Apprentice Programme in 2015 – offers routes into a wide range of professions. Over 95% of apprentices have successfully transferred into permanent roles within Essentia, our capital, estates and facilities directorate.

We also run work placements for people with disabilities and autism, offering qualifications, skills and support.

Supporting healthcare professionals

We help our professional staff to develop their skills by funding further studies, or paying for them to undertake extensive training on highly specialised equipment, to attend professional seminars and conferences, or to undertake research.

We also have strong links with other leading NHS trusts in the Shelford Group. This provides further scope for personal development, as does our current buddying arrangement to support Medway NHS Foundation Trust.
