Overview
Careology cancer app
We know that getting a cancer diagnosis can be scary, which is why we have partnered with Careology to help you manage your cancer care at home.
The Careology app supports you to live with cancer. It can help you to:
- track your symptoms
- manage your side effects
- get medicine reminders
- understand when to contact your doctor
- keep friends and family updated on your health
- understand your condition with personalised well-being articles
If you have a smart watch, you can link this with the Careology app to track your steps, heart rate, oxygen saturation and blood pressure.
Important
Careology is not for urgent problems or emergencies. If you have a serious medical problem and need help, call 999 or go to your nearest emergency department (A&E).
Accessing the Careology app
If you’re having treatment at Guy’s Cancer Centre, we'll send you an email invitation to use the Careology app. After receiving the email, you can download the app on your smartphone or tablet through the App store or Google play.
If you need any help with the app, the Careology team are based in Guy’s Cancer Centre in the Welcome Village or you can email [email protected]
Giving family and friends access
You can invite family and those closest to you to see the information and updates you input into your Careology app. To do this, open the app, go to the menu at the top left corner of your screen, go to ‘My Network’, then ‘Caregivers’, and ‘Invite Caregiver’.
Managing your symptoms and care
Careology lets you monitor your symptoms and be alert to changes. The traffic light system prompts you to get support when you need it.
Please do not rely on your healthcare team to monitor your symptoms in the app. It is your responsibility to seek medical help when you need it.
Using symptom ratings for medical support
The UKONs traffic light tool from your cancer treatment record booklet has been built into the Careology app. This system helps you to know when you need to contact your doctor by logging and rating the intensity of your symptoms.

How your healthcare team uses your data
If you give permission, some of your healthcare team will be able to view the information you enter into the app.
Please be aware that it will not be regularly monitored. You must still call the acute oncology service on 020 7188 3754 if you feel unwell or are concerned about anything that needs urgent attention or clinical advice.
The Careology app will prompt you to call the acute oncology service or emergency services following the UKONs guidelines.
Using both MyChart and Careology apps
MyChart lets you securely access parts of your health record with us. MyChart is part of our Epic electronic patient record system, and is for your healthcare with our hospital and community services.
You can use both apps if you’re having cancer treatment with us.
- MyChart is for every patient at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital, and you might already have an account. MyChart keeps you informed about your appointments and results.
- Careology has been designed especially for people having cancer treatment at Guy’s Cancer Centre. Careology helps you to monitor how you feel and gives you information on how to look after yourself during cancer treatment.
Data security
All the information you provide to Careology is stored on their secure servers and is encrypted between your device and any external host storage to keep it safe.
Your health data is classed as special category or "sensitive" personal data and Careology makes sure that additional safeguarding measures are in place to protect this information.
