Our service is for anyone with head and neck cancer who has a GP in south east London. It does not matter which hospital you're having treatment at.

How we support you

CHANT provides specialist advice and rehabilitation for people with head and neck cancer. We also have a psychology service.

We offer support with:

  • breathing changes and altered airways (following a laryngectomy or tracheostomy)
  • emotional wellbeing
  • fatigue (tiredness) and pain
  • finances, work and lifestyle
  • movement of your neck, shoulders and jaw
  • nutrition (including by a feeding tube if you have one)
  • oral hygiene (looking after your teeth and mouth)
  • referral to community health and social care services
  • swallowing, speech and communication

Our team

Our team includes:

  • clinical nurse specialists
  • dietitians
  • a clinical psychologist
  • speech and language therapists
  • physiotherapists
  • therapy assistants
  • administrative staff

We work with your GP and other services involved in your care.

You'll have appointments at your local clinic during your recovery. We may see you in your home if needed.

How we refer you

If you've had radiotherapy, your hospital team will refer you to CHANT before you finish treatment. Your first appointment will be with our dietitian and nurse a week after you finish. This appointment takes place at the Cancer Centre at Guy's. After this, we'll offer you an appointment at one of our local clinics.

After surgery, your hospital team will refer you to CHANT when you leave hospital, if needed.

If you've had chemotherapy or other treatments, your Guy's Cancer team will refer you to CHANT, if needed.
