Overview

Our medical same day emergency care (SDEC) unit provides emergency care on the same day to people with an acute medical illness who need urgent assessment in hospital. We see you as an outpatient. You must be well enough and able to travel to and from our department for us to see you in the SDEC.

Conditions we assess and treat include:

• chest pains
• blood clots in the lung
• infections such as pneumonia
• a flare up of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• irregular heart rhythms
• acutely abnormal blood test results
• acutely uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension
• anaemia
