Referrals
Making a referral
We only accept referrals from a GP or local hospitals. We do not take direct referrals from patients.
We accept referrals from anywhere in the UK.
We treat poisoning or suspected poisoning for patients of all ages. Children under 12 should be seen by a local paediatrician before being referred.
GP referrals
All NHS GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS). Referrals sent by email or post from NHS GPs will not be processed.
You can locate our service by selecting:
- speciality - general medicine
- clinic type - general medicine
- service name - toxicology (poisoning) clinic, St Thomas' site, Guy's and St Thomas', RJ1
We also do not accept any GP referrals by phone.
Tertiary referrals
Please email your referral to us.
Advice on acute poisonings/overdose
If your patient is showing signs of acute poisoning and you need advice:
- phone the National Poisons Information Service on 0344 892 0111
- use the online information database TOXBASE®
