Gastrointestinal (GI) surgery
We provide gastrointestinal surgery services. The surgeries we offer include the following.
Emergency general surgery for:
Colorectal surgery for the bottom, including:
- abscesses
- fissures
- fistulas
- sinuses
- prolapse
- haemorrhoids (piles)
Colorectal surgery for the bowel, including:
- bowel cancer
- inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
- bowel obstruction
Pelvic floor assessment and stoma care
Upper gastrointestinal surgery for:
- the food pipe (oesophagus)
- the stomach
- the duodenum (small bowel)
- hernias
Thyroid and endocrine surgery for:
- endocrine problems
- thyroid cancer
- parathyroid and adrenal diseases
- endoscopy
We are the south east regional centre for upper gastro-oesophageal surgery. We carry out surgery for cancer and other conditions of the oesophagus and stomach.
Wards
Nightingale ward is a short-stay surgical ward.
Gastrointestinal (GI) unit (Northumberland and Page wards) is for gastrointestinal surgery patients.
